Bunnies have been a staple of the Playboy brand since it opened its first nightclub in 1960. In the beginning, the bunnies were simply young women who worked as waitstaff in Playboy’s clubs. From 1960 to 1986, the brand ran 40 nightclubs, according to Atlas Obscura, as well as some intermittent casinos in England and the Bahamas. Prospective bunnies had to audition in order to get the job. Since then, the term has expanded somewhat. It’s even been applied to Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends, who lived with him in the Playboy Mansion. Hefner ex-girlfriend Holly Madison’s tell-all book is called “Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny.” Make no mistake, though – models who appear in Playboy magazine itself are “playmates,” not bunnies.
Every single playmate is hand selected by Hef aka Hugh Hefner. Each girl is then given a centerfold spread of a certain month and year and that would become her title. Even though girls have posed for Playboy, if they don’t have a centerfold and designated month, they are not playmates. Marilyn Monroe was the first centerfold and playmate but she wasn’t given a title or contract because Hef did not think the magazine would actually sell out every subscription which it did of 50,000! Now, Marilyn Monroe set high standards for playmates but she was no girl next door! That title really means a girl that a boy fantasizes about. A girl, whom a guy would think would be out of his league. I would like to believe there is some innocence to them but none that I have met! In reality, playmates are sexually advanced. I guess you would have to be to pose nude!
Being a Playboy Playmate enhance life tremendously. You could say it feels amazing to be considered and chosen by Hef to be a Playboy Playmate! To be named in an elite magazine with some of the most beautiful women in the world like Pamela Anderson and Anna Nicole Smith to me is one of the highest forms of flattery! When you do recognized you may get seated faster in a restaurant, chosen automatically in lines for clubs, and of course men seek after you!
In all seriousness, you can feel the acknowledgement of being a Playboy Playmate only enriches your life if that is the attention you are striving for because you can be easily forgotten. There are 12 playmates chosen each year and the magazine is 62 years old. Playmates can brake stereo-types and gossip of other women saying ” Oh, I didn’t get accepted because I was a stripper, or I was divorced, or I’m over 25 years old and I have a children.” That’s all a misconception. It’s the depth behind a girls eyes I believe and the sweetness a girl must acquire to become a Playboy Playmate. A lady in the street but a freak in the sheets is what I feel Playmates are all about!
Of course, you are going to get jealous women. Some talk a lot of trash but it shouldn’t effect you. Being a Playboy Playmate is an honor but it is up to the individual on how she wants to be portrayed.
You can find a lot of nude playmates on the internet. For example, you can jump to Pmate Hunter and enjoy free pictures of the most beautiful Playboy Playmates and Centerfolds! Take a look at our new Playmate Archive and the listing of Playmates of the Month and Year.
In addition, have you always dreamed of modeling for Playboy? Well, if you’re sexy, comfortable in your own skin (that goes without saying!), and possess a certain girl-next-door appeal, then you might have what it takes! Here’s what you need to know to land yourself in the pages of Playboy.
What a Playmate Is
A Playmate is a Playboy centerfold model. The magazine features a different Playmate each month, and at the end of the year, one of the twelve Playmates of the Month is named Playmate of the Year.
How Old You Have to Be to Pose for Playboy
In most states, you must be 18 or over. The exceptions are Alabama, Delaware, and Nebraska (19 or over) and Mississippi and Puerto Rico (21 or over). When you submit an online application, you’ll be asked to upload a photo of your current ID, such as your driver’s license, a government-issued state ID, or passport, to prove you’re of age. There’s no upper age limit when it comes to posing for Playboy. That said, the average age of a Playmate of the Year is around 24 years, and only two women have ever become Playmate of the Year in their 30s.
How to Become Part of the Playboy Universe
There are two ways for women to become Playboy models: Casting calls and online photo submissions.
Casting Calls
Playboy regularly holds open casting calls in major US cities. These events give Playboy scouts and photographers a chance to interact with the models and get a real sense of their personalities (photos can only do so much!). All you have to do is register online and show up for the call in the city of your choice. Once there, you’ll have 15–20 minutes to show off your potential. Remember to bring your ID and arrive looking your best (hair/makeup ready with a bikini/lingerie and heels), and be prepared to do an on-camera interview and pose for nude photographs. You should also be aware that Playboy TV is often on set to film behind the scenes of the casting!
Online Photo Submission
If you can’t attend a casting or are more comfortable submitting your photos online, then head over to the Playboy website and fill out their online application. You’ll need: A variety of photos, including one head-and-shoulders shot plus four to six nude full-figure body shots (front and back views). You don’t need to go out and get professional photos taken, but Playboy does expect them to be in focus and of relatively good quality, your physical measurements and details, including your height, weight, bust, waist, hips, hair color, and ethnic background, a copy of your photo ID. If you’re accepted for consideration, you can expect to hear back within four to six weeks.
Signing a Contract If You’re Chosen
All Playboy models, whether they’re Playmates or otherwise, must sign contracts. The Playmate contracts are the most binding because of the high earnings and the required obligations, while models other than Playmates have more basic work-for-hire contracts.
How Much Playmates Earn
Playmates of the Month earn $25,000 for appearing in the magazine. Playmates of the Year are paid an additional $100,000 plus additional gifts (such as a car or a motorcycle). Most Playmates also have the opportunity to earn extra money through personal appearances and other modeling assignments as arranged by Playboy.
If You’re Not Chosen
Playboy castings are incredibly competitive, so try not to be too hard on yourself if you’re not selected to be a Playmate. You can always try again, or else explore the many other modeling divisions within the Playboy universe, such Playboy Special Editions, Playboy Miss Social (non-nude), Cyber Girls, Playboy Golf, etc. Applicants are automatically reviewed for their potential to qualify for other Playboy-branded modeling and promotional opportunities, so there’s still a chance you could be a Playboy model.
